Imagine Intel: Creative Purpose at the Dawn of AI is a 100 page zine about creativity, AI and how to make sense of it all. Instead of choosing sides, we’re applying a pragmatic stance to AI and creativity: the sexy middle ground between
panic and excitement, where a space opens up, so
that we can take a moment and breathe.
Published by Mozilla Foundation and building on a series of conversations held in early 2025 (called the Imaginative Intelligences Assemblies, held in partnership with Berggruen Institute), the publication features insights, case studies and data on how artists and creatives are navigating the rapidly shifting AI landscape. Reflecting on the hopes and fears expressed through these intimate conversations amongst more than a hundred creative professionals in Hollywood, Imagine Intel: Creative Purpose at the Dawn of AI aims to establish a new narrative for how artists and creatives can relate to AI; equipping them with knowledge, agency and confidence to meaningfully participate in this new era.
The publication is structured along eight chapters and key questions:
1. PROCESS. How is the creative process changing?
2. EXPERIENCE. Is art made with AI different from art made without AI?
3. TRANSMISSION. Can creativity with AI produce meaning?
4. THE ARTISTS ROLE. How is the role of the artist changing in the age of AI?
5. VALUE. How can we live from creative labor when it is increasingly devalued?
6. MORALE. Is there an ethical way to work with AI models?
7. FRICTION. What are we losing when we’re giving away key cognitive abilities to machines?
8. INTELLIGENCE. What is intelligence in the age of AI?

Imagine Intel: Creative Purpose at the Dawn of AI aims to equip artists and creatives with agency to navigate AI on their own terms. Rather than accepting narratives that frame automation as inevitable, the zine demonstrates the possibility of creative futures shaped by communities, not corporations.
